About The Role
The Batcher is responsible to mix company products from raw materials per company formulations, to meet daily requirements and ensure compliance with company, customer and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Must become familiar with the rules and safety program applicable, must abide by prescribed health and safety procedures and participate in the process of identifying, reporting and assisting in eliminating risks to health and safety in the workplace.
- Mix company products/chemicals according to specifications/formulations
- Obtain raw materials necessary for formulation and weigh appropriate amounts in containers on scales.
- Carry containers of raw materials up the stairs to the mixing platform.
- Dump/pour raw materials into the appropriate mixing vessel and ensure that other materials necessary are pumped into mixing vessel.
- Obtain sample from the mixed batch and take to laboratory for testing.
- After obtaining approval from the laboratory ensuring mixed batch is to specifications and company standards, ensure the batch is pumped into a holding tank.
- Take (count) inventory of raw materials on a monthly basis as required.
- Perform all functions of job in a safe manner according to company rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Report shortages of raw materials and supplies in advance to Supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness in the mixing area, including, but not limited to, remove garbage and break up empty boxes in order to keep work area tidy so as not to detrimentally affect the condition and appearance of products being mixed and to comply with standards required under the scope of obligations under the Health and Safety Act.
- Ensure all utensils and equipment are maintained and stored according to plant GMP policies.
- When required, assists in production of product i.e. filling, etc., as directed by supervisor.
- Set-up manufacturing equipment. Troubleshoot any equipment problems.
- Assist Maintenance with any minor repairs or routine maintenance.
- Complete all required paperwork and ensure accurate before turning in to QA or the Production Supervisor.
- Review MPO’s & MWBR’s as necessary (in the absence of Production Supervisor)
- Follow all company polices and procedures as applicable to job.
- Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- Be knowledgeable in company standard operating procedures and participate in training as follows: Manufacturing and Line Operations, Health and Safety, Quality, Human Resources, GMP.
- Minimum completion of Grade 12 high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in related industry
- Preference given to candidates with Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Microbiology or a related science or completion of college diploma in the above disciplines.
- Accuracy and attention to detail is necessary in order to properly measure raw materials and mix the products.
- Manual dexterity required to do work on filling line.
- Motor and mechanical skills to operate weigh scales, and ON OCCASION - filling machine, capper, shrink wrap machine, tape gun, hand tools and cart for boxes, as well as to operate forklift - requires proper training - in connection with transporting materials.
- Plant (and/or assembly line experience) in a related field, acquired through previous factory work.
- Excellent knowledge of weights and measures.
- Excellent documentation writing skills and reading comprehension
- Basic mathematical skills (counting, addition, subtraction) required to read and comprehend weights, keep/take inventory and perform various calculations required for mixing product according to formulations.
- Must be able to read English for working with formulations and ensuring proper raw materials are used.
- Versatility required for performing various functions of position and multiple tasks and for working in the plant on the assembly line as required.
- Verbal communication to deal effectively with supervisor and co-workers, including when dealing with laboratory staff regarding adjustments to mixes.
- Caretaking skills to maintain clean and safe mixing area.
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- F/T 38 hours per week
- Must be available to work ALL shifts: days, nights, weekends.
- Overtime available as required and pre-approved by manager
- This position is not eligible for remote work
- This position is not eligible for relocation
