Brown & Brown is seeking an Underwriter to join our growing team in Markham, Canada!

The Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, underwriting, and processing new business applications, policy changes, and ensuring all relevant information is accurate and complete across various insurance carriers. This includes uploading applications via EDI, entering data on company websites, tracking personal lines in spreadsheets, and analyzing reports to confirm eligibility and rating accuracy.

How You Will Contribute

  • Responsible for reviewing, underwriting and recording all new business applications including forwarding company copy to the insurer where applicable.
  • Responsible for uploading applicable applications by EDI which includes verifying that all pertinent information is provided and accurate and ensuring upload has successfully reached the insurance carrier.
  • Responsible for entering new business applications on company websites for all applicable companies.
  • Recording and tracking all Personal Lines new business in excel spreadsheet.
  • Underwriting and processing policy changes after reviewing for accuracy on company websites for applicable insurance carrier.
  • Triage a high volume of incoming applications and policy changes.
  • Underwrite applications for completeness and accurate rating.
  • Collect missing information & documents required to underwrite the new application.
  • Review & analyze Autoplus and MVR reports to confirm rating accuracy and eligibility.

Skills & Experience To Be Successful

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years of insurance experience with strong understanding of various insurance carrier portals.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverages, contracts, and familiarity with carrier portals.
  • Strong organizational, good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Applied Rating Services.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products, including but not limited to Outlook, Word and Excel.
