Job Description

Mission

The electrical engineer or CPI (Certified Professional Engineer) will be actively involved in new or renovation projects for hydroelectric power plants in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada. More specifically, they will participate in the engineering and review of turbine-generator units and their auxiliaries, control and protection (C&P) systems, automation, switching equipment, auxiliary services (AC and DC), and studies. This is a great opportunity to showcase your technical expertise on electrical and multidisciplinary projects, as well as to be part of a dynamic, growing team. This is a hybrid position based at our Sherbrooke, QC office.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations to size the equipment for the power plant (e.g., cables, protection, load studies, etc.)
  • Design control and protection systems for controlling the equipment in a hydroelectric power plant (turbine-generator unit, substation/transformer, discharge valve, etc.)
  • Design the layout diagrams for the electrical equipment of the plant and the electrical substation
  • Review and integrate systems provided by third parties (subcontractors, turbine-generator suppliers, excitation, speed regulators, etc.)
  • Participate in preliminary studies and feasibility assessments
  • Participate in writing technical specifications for contractors and equipment purchase specifications
  • Coordinate engineering with other disciplines involved in the projects (civil, structural, mechanical, telecommunications, hydraulic, etc.)
  • Conduct site visits and surveys at the power plant to prepare engineering work or validate the progress of work
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing and site testing

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible
  • General knowledge of electricity production and the operation of equipment in a hydroelectric power plant
  • Experience with design software (AutoCAD and others) and Microsoft Office suite
  • Resourcefulness, motivation, enthusiasm, project success-oriented with a strong desire to succeed
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in French
  • Knowledge of relevant design standards and codes, including the Quebec Electrical Code
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
  • ASP (General Health and Safety) construction card is an asset
