The Role
BGC is seeking a junior level geotechnical engineer with a passion to expand their knowledge of geotechnical testing for our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick (BGC Engineering | Fredericton, NB (matterport.com)).
BGC’s laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility which specializes in strength, compressibility and permeability testing of soil, and strength testing of rock. Our testing equipment includes cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully automated triaxial, and automated oedometer systems. The junior engineer will support intermediate engineers with advanced rock laboratory testing and learn foundational rock mechanics.

Responsibilities
- Perform advanced geotechnical tests on rock specimens to determine their physical and mechanical properties
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from rock tests to support engineering projects and research.
- Work closely with senior and intermediate engineers to support laboratory testing programs with varying deadlines and responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory test reports
- Follow lab procedures for safety and quality
- Train and mentor laboratory staff and laboratory visitors
- Bachelor’s degree in applied science or engineering; a focus in rock mechanics is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
- Desire to work in a lab and learn advanced rock testing
