Under the direction of the Manager of Business Systems - Alberta, the IBMi Application Specialist - Alberta is responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, documenting business system software, and the maintenance of new/legacy application software including technical support.

Under the direction of the Manager of Business Systems - Alberta, the IBMi Application Specialist - Alberta is responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, documenting business system software, and the maintenance of new/legacy application software including technical support.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain applications and databases by evaluating business needs; analyzing requirements; and developing software systems.
- Gather and evaluate business requirements by use of analytic skills and personal rapport with business department heads.
- Identify project requirements by analyzing business needs and the preparation of a workflow using knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, programming language, and logic.
- Execute the development of applications by programming system features and functionality.
- Verify the correct system program operations by conducting testing and completing any modifications to program operations per testing results.
- Maintain workplace professionalism and contribution to team-related efforts.
- Follow programming guidelines and corporate business policies and procedures.
- Provide technical support and solutions.
- Provide occasional after-hours support to maintain business continuity and address critical system issues when necessary.
- Other duties as required.
- Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology or a related field, is required.
- A minimum of 0-2 years working with SQL and DB2 is required.
- 5+ years working in an IBM AS400 or IBMi, RPG, RPGLE, RPG-FREE, CL, and Query is an asset.
- Experience in an IT development role within the automotive or insurance industry is an asset.
- A background working with accounting, financial and insurance practices is an asset
- Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) is required.
- Fluent in English with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is required.
- Fluent in French with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is an asset.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check, education verification, license and certification verification (where applicable), and employment reference checks is required before employment.
