NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
There are 3 permanent, fulltime posts of 37 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Sunday.
QEUH Adult theatres are fast paced theatres which continually change and develop. They operate 27/7 and perform emergency and elective surgery in all specialities including, laparoscopic Robotic, renal transplant, ENT, Gynaecology, vascular and many more. As the QEUH is the West of Scotland Major Trauma Centre orthopaedics are also involved in this service. Orthopaedic theatres require strong leadership and specialist knowledge to facilitate and manage the complex procedures carried out at the QEUH.
We are looking for 3 Senior staff members to work in our orthopaedic elective theatres and our orthopaedic trauma theatres. The post holders would have the skills to team lead within the orthopaedic theatres. The post holders will work closely with both SCN’s for Trauma and Elective surgery and the wider MDT to ensure efficiency and cost effective use of resources without compromising care. There is a need for these posts to ensure that the theatres run efficiently and effectively with a focus on patient care, governance and safety.
You should be an experienced Perioperative practitioner with at least 2 years’ experience at a band 5 within an orthopaedic trauma/ elective perioperative environment and have evidence of leadership experience.
Have the ability to work on your own initiative but also working as part of an integrated team is required.
You must have demonstrated ability of working in a complex, multidisciplinary, clinical environment.
You must also have the skills to deal with conflicting pressures in a professional and calm manner and be able to work in a highly pressured environment.
The Orthopaedic CN/CODP’s would provide effective leadership and specialist knowledge to ensure high quality care is delivered and that nursing and service developments are taken forward to ensure we continue to provide excellent standards of care. These senior posts would support junior staff and students and ensure that there was ongoing training within the orthopaedic service and also as part of the wider West of Scotland Major Trauma Centre.
They will deputise for the SCN’s in their absence and taking responsibility for some of the attendance management processes in their absence.
An understanding of Audit process and experience is highly desirable as this will be part of the job holder’s senior role.
They will be a current student mentor and will have undertaken Turas appraisals previously.
