Position Summary

The Industrial Engineering Specialist will assist Industrial Engineers in performing time and motion analysis of manual process activities, test execution and experiments for new product introduction as well as established products to ensure project and product cost, quality and time goals are met. They will provide training and monitor and audit Manufacturing Operators and Technicians on new processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as they are implemented. The Industrial Engineering Specialist will also be responsible for the design, implementation and observation of new processes.

Duties Include (but Are Not Limited To)

  • Supports Request for Quote (RFQ) process by partnering with stakeholders to develop End-to-End process flows, initial time studies, high level assembly instructions, packaging, and palletization documents for new products
  • Lead or support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) efforts to ensure lessons learned and best practices are implemented in new projects
  • Perform time and motion study analysis on test and assembly processes for new and existing products
  • Assist in creating production line layouts, work instructions, SOPs, equipment/tools lists, design of manufacturing jigs, assembly drawings and 5S documents for production
  • Support the development of Product Test Jigs, Fixtures and Tools required by NPI projects.
  • Setup and commission production lines as per their design requirements
  • Train Production and Support staff on product, material movement and repair process flows, work instructions and SOP’s for NPI projects
  • Analyze available metrics and reporting to identify improvement opportunities within existing manufacturing processes and the Operations facility. Create projects to realize those opportunities
  • Continually work to standardize assembly practices wherever feasible
  • Support facilities in the area of workplace safety and ergonomics
  • Perform process flow mapping and value stream mapping

Position Requirements

  • Typically 2 – 3 years’ experience in the field(s) of industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or continuous improvement
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Industrial / Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or Technology or equivalent
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow belt an asset
  • Working with high volume manufacturing would be an asset
  • 1 year practical experience with Lean manufacturing
  • Should be capable of making edits to engineering drawings and creating simple to moderately complex engineering drawings
  • Capable of creating simple to moderately complex time and motion studies
  • Should have a yellow belt in Lean Six Sigma principles and methodology or an equivalent level of knowledge with the ability to implement white belt principles and methodologies
  • Should have a developing level of ergonomic concepts such that they are capable of identifying areas of moderate levels of ergonomic risk and developing processes which mitigate those risks
