We’re looking for a Press Plater Helper who will be involved with assisting the Press crew with the operations, maintenance and housekeeping of our printing presses. This role will be on a 2 week rotational shift on day shift (7:30am – 3:30pm) and afternoon shift (3:30pm – 11:30pm).

Key Responsibilities

Press Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with the Feeder and Pressman and following their instructions
  • Filling all chemicals, emptying waste ink cans and disposing of them properly
  • Ensure wash up blades and trays are removed and cleaned
  • Return all unused ink to return shelf after each job is complete
  • Remove all waste sheets from all loads before each run begins
  • Clean all ink slabs and ink knives before the end of your shift
  • Maintain and ensure press area is swept and cleaned
  • Wash and properly store plates for filing when a job is complete
  • Assist press crew with various job functions as directed
  • Train and learn how to be a feeder and assist where needed

Plating Responsibilities

  • Retrieve files from various servers and rips for plating and making coats, ensuring to report any major issues to Supervisor
  • Review and performs work to the plating schedule and docket information, including changes.
  • Ensure plate room equipment is monitored, maintained, in working order, and being fully utilized.
  • Monitor and ensure proper chemistry levels, water softener salt, and processor temperatures.
  • Produce coats and plates, verify plates and coating knockouts to job requirements.
  • Check knockouts, trims, color bars and elements to proof, Production Mylar and print docket information
  • Label and organize all plates and tubes.
  • Ensure Prism, Print docket and time sheets are signed and reflect accurate production performed.
  • Ensure print docket, tube, plates and coating blanket are taken to press staging areas.
  • Prioritize health and safety of everyone at work, reporting injuries, occurrences or near misses to Plater and Supervisors
  • Follow processes of pulling tube requests, and loading Magnus.
  • Keep work area clean and tidy, including emptying garbage and keeping all floors swept.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, with previous experience in the printing industry an asset.
  • Strong understanding of various supplies and chemicals
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40lbs
  • Must be willing to learn how to use a walkie and forklift, with prior experience and certifications/license an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task, keeping organized at all times
  • Must be available to work 2 week rotational shifts from day shift to afternoon shift
