Basic Requirements

• Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
• Three (3) years recent psychiatric nursing experience;
• Demonstrates a sound knowledge of the principles of psychiatric nursing;
• Demonstrates excellent communication/ interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrates a desire and ability to participate in patient/family teaching;
• Experiencing in facilitating/co-facilitating patient groups and individual counselling;
• Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as an active member of the health care team;
• Demonstrates an understanding of the application and relevance of the Quality Assurance Program and participates in unit projects.
• Experience in completing and documenting comprehensive mental health assessments;
• Experience in crisis intervention;
• Ability to utilize problem solving, organizational and assessment skills to complete referral triaging and to work collaboratively with referral sources;
• Knowledge and experience in assessment and treatment modalities that include crisis intervention, suicide safety assessments, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy.
  
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate;
• BSc.N.;
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention course;
• Canadian Nurses Association Psychiatric Nursing Certification;
• Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
