The City of Grande Prairie is seeking experienced Emergency Communications Officers with a strong background in police call evaluation and dispatch. GP911 will play an integral role in the establishment and operations of the Grande Prairie Police Service. GP911 presently serves as the primary PSAP and fire dispatch services and is expanding to police call evaluation and dispatch services.
Position Responsibilities
The Emergency Communications Officer (ECO) evaluates requests and determines immediate needs in emergency and non-emergency situations. ECOs obtain, verify, and distribute information, dispatch appropriate services, and maintain communications with responders.
You will receive, evaluate, and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls, operate multiple communication systems, including two-way radios, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, and other relevant technologies. You will dispatch personnel and units from appropriate services and provide communications, liaison services, operational support, and inter-agency coordination. You will give the callers appropriate pre-arrival and post-dispatch Instructions. You will analyze events, assess risks, and adapt to high-pressure situations with shifting priorities. You will maintain documentation and provide continuous updates on events.
You will actively participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program and ensure compliance with Alberta 911 Standards and department policies and procedures. You will actively participate in competency-based dispatch maintenance and progression training, provide operational support, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
3+ years Police Dispatch and/or call evaluation (Preferred)
High School Diploma or equivalent
Blended Intermediate First Aid CPR Level C & AED
Successful completion of aptitude assessments and GP911 Training Evaluation
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 42 hours, with the specific schedule determined by the immediate supervisor. You will be required to complete shiftwork, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as this is a 24/7 operation.
Compensation
Salary ranges from $37.72 - $50.29 per hour
