Summary
The Technical Writer leverages experience, education, and technical understanding to produce and/or document Operating Procedures for the various maintenance/operations activities in a building and related facilities and equipment. To do so, the Technical Writer will consult published maintenance standards, equipment maintenance manuals, interview maintenance practitioners, observe maintenance activities, etc. Included in Operating Procedures is an outline of maintenance schedules, references, and forms to be used as part of each maintenance activity.
The Technical Writer must have the ability to clearly articulate technical details and instructions in a written form.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Research and Analysis
- Apply information-gathering techniques, research skills, and analysis to define, refine, and document facility maintenance processes and procedures as needed (identify opportunities for improvement, ensure internal consistency).
- Investigate and understand industry regulations and best practices to determine how improvements can be made to current facilities maintenance operating and documentation procedures.
- Manage the document control process to ensure consistent nomenclature in document names and that only current documents are available.
- Manage documentation versions and updates using version control tools.
- Ensure documentation complies with relevant industry standards and company branding.
- Develop, write, and maintain clear and concise technical documentation, including user manuals, MOPs, SOPs, and EOPS. Manage the process from inception to publication.
- Edit and proofread documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Collaborate with managers, operators, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and translate it into documentation that is easily understood by the reader.
- Participate in regular meetings with team members and stakeholders to review progress, gather updates, and align on documentation needs.
- Solid command of English in both verbal and written communication.
- Technical Writer Certificate is highly favoured.
- Must have a demonstrated understanding of building-related technical systems which could come from having a degree, diploma, or certificate related to mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Demonstrated knowledge which typically comes with up to 3 years’ experience.
- Excellent observation skills and communication skills with the ability to effectively interview maintenance team members and 3 rd party providers.
- Able to identify relevant regulations and codes.
- Ability to communicate and write in French is an asset.
- Experience creating and developing process maps.
- Ability to travel to multiple job sites.
- Highly proficient in MS Word and Visio.
- Technical Writer Certificate is highly favoured.
