Position Summary
- Responsible to fill in for cooks and provide replacement for all cooks duties as required.
- Ensure that department standards for food preparation are followed.
- Complies with Jewish dietary laws as determined by the Simkin Centre.
- Maintains ingredient and portion control as per standardized recipes.
- Must be able to work as a team and co-operate with co-workers.
- Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Must communicate well with residents.
- Able to manage all food service wagons and carts safely.
- Able to operate dish machine and all mechanical equipment within the department.
- Able to bake pastry products from scratch and follow recipes accurately.
EDUCATION
- Grade XII education
- English-as-a-Additional Language (EAL) Level 6 required. Must successfully complete a prescribed skills test
- Certificate from a recognized cooking school, or two years related experience
- Valid Food Handler Certificate
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of one year work experience as a dietary aide.
- Experience cooking in an institutional cook chill production environment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills in an environment that is time sensitive and with daily deadline.
- Proven ability to prepare all menu items to facility standards.
