In this role, you will be

• Building, mentoring, and leading a high-performing product development team, setting clear objectives, supporting professional growth, and fostering a culture of accountability and improvement.
• Owning and overseeing the entire product development process, ensuring products meet defined performance, safety, and cost criteria.
• Managing product specifications, ensuring they are clear, actionable, and effectively balance performance, materials, and manufacturing constraints.
• Implementing product testing and quality assurance processes to validate performance, durability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Overseeing compliance with product safety regulations, certifications, and industry standards, ensuring all products meet legal and ethical requirements.
• Improving product development efficiency, streamline processes, and implementing best practices that shorten time-to-market timelines and produce repeatable, high-quality deliverables.
• Create, monitor, and analyze product development performance metrics to drive continuous improvements in materials, design, and processes.
• Working closely with internal teams, including Brand Management, Procurement, and Quality, to ensure smooth handoffs between development stages.
• Supporting the planning and execution of the department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources while maintaining high product quality.
• Developing and optimizing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for product development activities, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and compliance with company policies.
  
  

Our ideal candidate

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
• P.Eng (Professional Engineer) certification issued by a recognized regulatory body (e.g., APEGA) is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in consumer product development, and working with physical products
• 2+ years in a managerial or leadership role.
• Experience leading teams through the product development process, with a track record of bringing products to market.
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain constraints in the consumer goods industry.
• Familiarity with compliance standards, industry regulations, and product safety requirements in North America.
• Proficiency in engineering and product development software, including CAD, PLM systems, and product testing tools is an asset.

• Sleep product or Furniture industry experience.
