Senior Business Systems Analyst

On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a Senior Business Systems Analyst to analyze and document business processes to identify improvements, gather and shape requirements using various techniques, and translate them into clear functional specifications. Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize needs, assess tradeoffs, and support delivery teams through solution development and deployment.

Responsibilities:

• Obtain a deep understanding of relevant business area(s) to be able to recommend solutions and build high-quality requirements.

• Document current and future state business and ITS processes and models to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities to streamline and simplify processes.

• Use a variety of techniques to understand business requirements, such as interviews, workshops, surveys, site visits, and storyboards.

• Shape business requirements by making recommendations and suggesting alternatives to proposed solutions.

• Understand technical options, limitations, costs, and risks. Communicate tradeoffs to business partners and work with them to shape requirements accordingly.

• Translate business and conceptual user requirements into clear, detailed use cases, functional and non-functional requirements, and functional design specifications.

• Work with business and delivery teams to prioritize requirements.

• Help resolve competing priorities between stakeholder groups by facilitating stakeholder discussions and escalate issues where appropriate.

• Develop additional artifacts as appropriate, including business case documentation, scope documentation, impact assessments, and process flows.

• Collaborate with delivery teams as they develop, test, and deploy solutions to ensure requirements are correctly interpreted.

Qualifications:

Mandatory skills:

• Post-secondary degree in computer science, information systems or related field. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered

• Minimum of eight (8) years of demonstrated experience as a Business Systems Analyst

• Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated software development project experience as a Business Systems Analyst

• Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated experience in Quality Assurance/Testing

Desired Skills:

• Five (5) years of demonstrated recent experience determining the explicit and implicit needs and requirements of various stakeholders and translating into business requirements, use cases, functional and non-functional requirements and/or functional design specifications.

• Five (5) years of demonstrated recent experience in large-scale software development projects with iterative design/development approach involving multiple user groups.

• Five (5) or more years of demonstrated recent experience working on methodology improvements and implementations within a software development environment. Specifically in the areas of business systems analysis, quality assurance and software testing.
