Position Overview:
TIMEZYX is seeking a Research Associate in Computational Mathematics to support the development of new computational methods, software tools, and scientific research. This full-time, in-person role in Vancouver, BC offers a unique opportunity to work on challenging and high-impact projects at the intersection of numerical analysis, scientific computing, and machine learning. The ideal candidate is an independent thinker with deep expertise in numerical methods and a passion for building high-performance software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize iterative solvers in C++, Python, and Julia
- Conduct applied research on numerical ODEs, PDEs, IEs, and uncertainty quantification methods
- Develop novel approaches using Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for solid mechanics simulations
- Contribute to high-impact publications and technical reports
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams of researchers and domain experts
- Engage in technical discussions and present research findings in team meetings and conferences
- Maintain high-quality, well-documented codebases and contribute to open-source projects
Qualifications:
- M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, or a related field
- Expertise in scientific computing, particularly in numerical linear algebra and iterative solvers
- Strong understanding of Finite Element Analysis and PINNs
- Proficiency in C++, Python, Julia, and/or Fortran
- Experience with high-performance computing (OpenMP, MPI, Distributed.jl)
- Familiarity with key scientific libraries (e.g., Intel oneMKL, Ginkgo, FEniCS, FFTW, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib)
- Excellent academic and technical writing skills
Non-Technical Qualifications:
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate across disciplines
- Self-motivated and capable of managing research projects independently
- Strong team leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Adaptable to evolving tasks and research directions
Nice to Haves:
- Experience working in research labs or academic/industry collaborations
- Contributions to open-source scientific computing projects
- Exposure to university departments focused on numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, or computational mechanics (e.g., Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science)
Compensation:
- This is a full-time, in-person position based in Vancouver, BC.
- The salary range for this position is 85-110k (Flexible for the right candidate)
