Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Mechanical/ Turnover Inspector will work directly with the execution team and supervision to ensure that work completed by Bird Construction meets all company and client specifications.
This role is located in Chalk River, ON.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Mechanical/ Turnover Inspector will work directly with the execution team and supervision to ensure that work completed by Bird Construction meets all company and client specifications.
This role is located in Chalk River, ON.
What You Will Be Working On
- Provide senior-level oversight and execution of the mechanical systems inspection and turnover process, ensuring adherence to the overall work plan and schedule.
- Organize and maintain comprehensive mechanical inspection records, turnover packages, and associated project documentation; manage electronic databases and file-sharing platforms to ensure traceability and accessibility.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and up-to-date status of all mechanical and turnover documents, including drawings, inspection reports, submittals, redlines, RFIs, purchase orders, and completion certificates.
- Conduct detailed reviews of subcontractor and supplier submissions, including test reports and mechanical completion documents, ensuring alignment with turnover requirements and milestones.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams, quality assurance, subcontractors, and client representatives on contract deliverables, inspection procedures, and change management.
- Participate in and/or lead coordination meetings focused on mechanical completion, quality control, and system turnover, providing insights and guidance on inspection best practices.
- Prepare and issue timely, accurate meeting minutes, capturing technical discussions, responsibilities, and action items related to mechanical and turnover scopes.
- Play a critical role in the development and finalization of system turnover packages, ensuring all required documentation is compiled, verified, and delivered to the client.
- Address and coordinate resolution of punch items and deficiencies efficiently, leveraging mechanical systems expertise to maintain high-quality standards.
- Maintain active awareness of project status and key turnover metrics, providing updates to the Project Manager and key stakeholders on progress and any issues impacting delivery.
- Offer advanced technical support to the field and project teams, drawing on extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and turnover processes in complex environments.
- Completed post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a senior mechanical inspection, QA/QC, or turnover role, ideally within the industrial, nuclear, or ICI construction sectors.
- Experience supporting or managing mechanical system inspections and turnovers on large-scale projects, including familiarity with construction and commissioning lifecycles.
- Exceptional ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and turnover documentation.
- Strong proficiency with document management tools and MS Office suite (especially Excel and Word); experience with SharePoint and turnover tracking systems is a strong asset.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills to prioritize work under tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Client-focused with a proactive and professional approach to resolving challenges and delivering quality outcomes.
- Strong sense of initiative, self-motivation, and willingness to adapt to complex and evolving project needs.
