Purpose

To provide holistic nursing care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario, organizational and unit standards, as well as participate and collaborate with other health care providers in provision of patient care. As a Float pool nurse you work across various units within the hospital, and can step in where the staffing needs arise. As a registered nurse you are responsible for making clinical decisions and exercising judgment to ensure the best possible nursing care is provided within available resources.

Duties

  • Participates and collaborates with other health care providers in provision of patient care.
  • Effectively uses the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient.
  • Provides health teaching to patients and family.
  • Provides assistance in planning corrective actions to ensure safety for patients and staff.
  • Is compliant with legislation, organizational and departmental, regulations, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of competency in Ontario
  • Current certification in venepuncture (I.V. certification).

Experience

  • Recent experience providing bedside patient care in a healthcare setting
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the management and care of medical and post-acute patients
  • Knowledge of Oncology, Palliative, Telemetry, Stroke, and Surgical patients

Skills

  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability

  • Knowledgeable in the utilization and care of all mechanical equipment required for patient care.
  • Willingness and ability to complete a thorough hospital orientation program to all the various inpatient units that are supported by the float pool.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
  • Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the Hospital’s mission, vision, and iCcare Way values.
