($145,634 - $171,334 Annually)

Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President Human Resources, the Director Labour Relations & Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) provides advice and counsel to all levels of management regarding interpretation of collective agreements and the resolution of complex and contentious labour and employee relations issues; chairs collective bargaining or participates on the bargaining committee during negotiations; and represents management and BC Housing’s interests in arbitrations, mediation, and other legal proceedings. He/she/they mitigate risk to the organization, leads change initiatives, and provides expertise related to orientation and training initiatives for managers, staff and People Services Advisors on labour and employee relations, WCB claims management and occupational health and safety matters.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- University degree in human resources management, industrial relations, or other relevant discipline.
- Extensive experience in managing labour relations and occupational health and safety programs for a public sector organization. Considerable experience with collective bargaining, interpreting collective agreements and handling grievances at all stages.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of the philosophies, practices and processes of labour relations, occupational health and safety, and general human resources management.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of Commission and government human resources policies and procedures, collective agreement provisions, terms and conditions of employment, workplace legislation and government regulations pertaining to WCB and OHS management and administration.
- In-depth knowledge of the Commission’s organization structure, its programs and operating practices.
- Ability to effectively provide labour relations and OHS services in meeting the needs of the Commission while complying with labour relations practices, provincial and federal legislation, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to provide effective advice and counsel to all levels of management in dealing with complex and contentious labour relations, WCB and safety issues.
- Ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and good judgment.
- Effective consultation, facilitation, negotiation, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Strategic, conceptual, and analytical thinking, strong problem-solving skills and effective decision-making skills and abilities.
- Ability to effectively lead, coach, and motivate staff in a team environment.
