POSITION
Field Supervisor – Solar Operations
LOCATION
Various locations across Ontario and the United States
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
As a key part of Potentia’s Operations Team, this position reports directly to Manager of Operations and will work closely with Solar Operations and Maintenance (O&M) teams, as well as third-party service providers and stakeholders, to ensure the optimal performance and upkeep of Potentia’s solar PV assets. This position has 1-2 direct reports.
Accountabilities and Key Functions
The Field Supervisor – Solar Operations will oversee and coordinate the maintenance and service activities for Potentia’s commercial rooftop and utility-scale solar PV installations. This role requires a proactive leader with strong supervisory skills, technical expertise in solar PV systems, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence. The Field Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the efficient dispatch of technicians, monitoring system performance, enforcing safety protocols, and maintaining high standards for reliability and compliance.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and coordinate field service activities, ensuring timely response to maintenance and repair needs for commercial solar PV installations.
- Manage the dispatching of field technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient workflow and resource allocation.
- Oversee and enforce safety protocols, conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and training sessions to maintain a strong safety culture.
- Monitor real-time system performance using IT tools and analytics, identifying trends and potential issues to optimize operational efficiency.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and provide guidance on the repair of electrical, electronic, and mechanical components of solar PV systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance and repair activities, including corrective actions and preventive maintenance tasks, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal teams and third-party contractors to resolve technical and logistical issues while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards.
- Assist in reviewing system performance data and developing strategies for maintenance planning, optimization, and process improvements.
- Lead and mentor field technicians, fostering professional growth and ensuring team alignment with company goals and expectations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- 3+ years of experience in solar PV field operations
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems;
- Experience with PLC technology, power electronics, SCADA systems, and monitoring software.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Strong knowledge of industry safety standards, including OHSA and ESA regulations;
- Experience conducting safety training and audits.
- IT & Monitoring:
- Familiarity with remote monitoring platforms, data analysis tools, and IT-based troubleshooting for PV system performance tracking.
- Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to various stakeholders.
- Leadership Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams, manage workload distribution, and ensure operational efficiency.
- Additional Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage documentation processes effectively.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment through ongoing training and adherence to best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- High school diploma or equivalent (at a minimum)
- Certifications such as 309A Journeyman or other relevant trade certifications.
