What You Will Do
The role is responsible for contributing to AIL’s culture by exhibiting collaboration, curiosity, resilience, leadership and accountability in a manner which supports AIL’s employee wellness, environmental sustainability, and profitability.
Reporting to a Principal Engineer, the GeoStructural Designer, with knowledge of structural and geotechnical engineering, is primarily responsible for supporting the design of projects using geostructural products such as buried bridges, retaining walls/abutments and sound barrier walls. Strong knowledge in soil mechanics is preferred.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and hazards associated with geo-structural designs and propose mitigation measures to ensure the safety and stability of structures.
Code Compliance: Ensure that designs comply with relevant building or bridge codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to geo-structural engineering.
Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, co-op students, sales and others to provide training and ongoing assistance.
Documentation: Prepare detailed design calculations, reports, and drawings to document the design process and communicate technical information to project teams and clients.

- Design Structures:Support the design of innovative, cost-effective designs for buried bridge, bridge abutment, footing, retaining wall and soundwall products for the Canadian and International market. Geotechnical Analysis: Conduct geotechnical investigations and analysis to assess soil properties, groundwater conditions, and other site-specific factors that may affect the stability of structures.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and hazards associated with geo-structural designs and propose mitigation measures to ensure the safety and stability of structures.
Code Compliance: Ensure that designs comply with relevant building or bridge codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to geo-structural engineering.

What You Will Need
- Engineering degree with knowledge in structural and geotechnical engineering. A Master’s degree and knowledge in soil-structure interaction considered an asset.
- 1 - 2 years of engineering experience is an asset.
- Refined analysis (finite element) knowledge in either geotechnical and/or structural engineering fields. Familiarity with Plaxis considered an asset.
- Strong critical thinking.
- Effective project management skills.
- Effective planning and organizational skills.
- Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
