About The Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller is a key member of their finance and administrative team, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. This position provides support and plays a significant role in all accounting operations, including financial reporting, annual review engagement, budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis as required. Additionally, the Assistant Controller is responsible for maintaining full-cycle accounting and month-end closing procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and journal entries.

Ensure ASPE compliance and adherence to financial regulations.

Review and post sales invoices, as well as AP invoices.

Close manufacturing orders (MO’s).

Monitor and make recommendations to improve financial policies and procedures.

Ensure full financial and operational compliance with CRA, PST/GST, and WorkSafeBC regulations.

Cross-train within the team on financial reporting, AP/AR functions, and compliance processes.

Undertake other accounting and finance projects as needed.

Required Competencies, Experience And Education

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft systems, and ERP accounting systems (GP Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, etc.), with the ability to leverage technology to create efficiencies.

Problem Solving and Analytic Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and keen attention to detail for accuracy.

Time Management: Excellent time management skills, taking initiative to achieve objectives and prioritizing tasks to stay on schedule.

Record Management: Exceptional record management skills with a clear understanding of confidentiality and data security.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with non-finance teams, management, advisory consultants, and customers.

Adaptability: Capable of adjusting to meet varied business needs, including adapting personal style to work with different people.

Professionalism: Consistently professional, possessing high levels of personal integrity, character, and accountability.

Education And Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline; CPA designation or current enrollment in a CPA program with significant related work experience.

Experience: Minimum of two years of related accounting experience (preparing financial statements and month-end & year-end reporting), ideally from a manufacturing environment.

This position is ideal for an accountant who is CPA designated or will be soon (CFE completed) and has an interest in the manufacturing industry. It is well-suited for candidates seeking a hands-on role with opportunities to create efficiencies and implement solutions. In the long term, this role could evolve into a Financial Controller position overseeing the team.

The salary offer will be competitive and determined based on the applicant’s level of experience, with the potential for growth based on performance. The position includes three weeks of vacation and a comprehensive benefits package, which covers Extended Health, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment (ADD), and Dental. Life/ADD and Long-Term Disability are paid 100% by the employee, ensuring that any benefits collected are free of income tax.
