The Supervisor, Food and Nutrition is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of food preparation, storage, and service, adhering to Canada’s Food Guide, Ministry standards, and Public Health requirements. This role involves collaboration with the Registered Dietitian to implement and monitor residents’ nutritional care plans, ensuring compliance with approved menus, including therapeutic and texture-modified diets, and to ensure that the continued high quality of care is provided to all residents of the Glen Stor Dun Lodge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all aspects of food preparation, storage, and service in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide, Ministry standards, and Public Health requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Registered Dietitian to ensure residents’ nutritional care plans are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with menus approved by a registered dietitian, including therapeutic and texture-modified diets.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and training for dietary staff.
  • Maintain records related to:
    • Food and fluid intake
    • Menu planning and audits
    • Temperature logs (food and equipment)
    • Cleaning and sanitation,
    • Staff training and performance.
Additional Legislative Compliance:

  • Follow Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) standards for dietary services.
  • Adhere to the Minimum Staffing Hours where required.
  • Ensure emergency food supply and contingency plans are in place as per the home’s emergency preparedness protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and Ministry inspections related to dietary services.

Position Requirements:

Education & Certifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Food Services Supervisory program or equivalent
  • A member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or a Registered Dietitian
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of related supervisory experience in a unionized Long Term Care facility with proven experience in large quantity food preparation, financial planning and food purchasing.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

Personal and Professional Competencies:

  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Understanding of geriatric nutrition and therapeutic diets.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation (FLTCA, O. Reg. 246/22, Public Health).
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams. French language skills will be considered an asset.
