- Classify products and items under the Canadian and American customs tariffs, by:
- Retrieving technical information and drawings from various internal and external sources
- Requesting information from vendors or internal sources
- Searching through publicly available customs rulings
- Validating the Notes and Explanatory notes that are relevant
- Determine the correct Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) applicable to those materials and parts
- Determine the correct Canadian Export Classification List (ECL) item number, if applicable
- Review waybills, invoices and origin certification and other supporting documents for conformity to customs regulations and corporate policies
- Respond to questions from the company’s customs brokers in respect to country of origin and HS/HTS coding
- Obtain customs paperwork by contacting vendors, clients, and internal departments.
- Verify documentation for rating compliance.
- Assist brokers in processing entries to meet Company and CBSA/CBP compliance standards.
- Assist the department in elaborating processes to improve the efficiency thereof.
- You show mastery of the French and English languages.
- You have a strong understanding of office software including MS office (Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams).
- Experience with SAP or other ERP system preferred.
- Aerospace and mechanical knowledge would be an asset.
- Post secondary education is preferred.
- You have a minimum of seven (7) years of job-related experience.
- You have a CCS (Customs Certified Specialist) designation obtained (Canada) and/or Customs Brokers License.
- You have extensive knowledge of customs regulations, including document requirements.
- You have a full understanding of Incoterms.
- You have a strong understanding of rules of origin and free trade agreements.
- You have a basic understanding of customs valuation methods and codes.
- Basic to Intermediary knowledge of Export Control classification (Canada and US) preferred.
- You have extensive understanding of classification in the international Harmonised System, including Notes, Explanatory Notes and rulings.
- You have a strong understanding of PGA (Partner Government Agency)/OGD (Other Government Department) requirements and customs clearance process (all modes).
