About The Role
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Communications and Engagement, the Communications Advisor:
- promotes the Council’s programs, prizes, initiatives and other activities;
- prepares strategic communication plans and offers strategic advice in managing issues and the Council’s reputation in an often fast-paced environment;
- identifies promotional opportunities and contributes to a busy editorial calendar;
- maintains and develops strong relationships with national, regional, community, Indigenous and culturally diverse influencers in both traditional and specialized media;
- coordinates responses to media and publicity;
- creates, organizes and distributes exceptional content for communications as wide-ranging as news releases, promotional campaigns, e-bulletins, and multimedia to support organizational initiatives and community events;
- contributes to events and major announcements across communication platforms;
- works in concert with large project teams in all Council divisions;
- liaises with colleagues in the other Communications units;
- coordinates campaigns and external partnerships;
- produces reports on the results of communications campaigns;
- and performs other related duties.
- An undergraduate degree in communications or public relations or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Five (5) years of experience in areas related to the position (public affairs and media relations, organizational communications strategy, and content creation).
- Extensive knowledge of current communications best practices on digital and traditional platforms, in media relations and in issues management.
- Creativity, aplomb and good judgment in addressing both opportunities and issues.
- Ability to engage with, assimilate and quickly synthesize complex subject matter, and adapt it in an appropriate tone and manner.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and manage many tasks simultaneously.
- Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to principles of equity.
- Good understanding of the arts and culture landscape in Canada.
- Excellent writing, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent project-management skills.
- Content creation skills.

- An advanced level in reading comprehension (C)
- An Advanced level in writing (C)
- An advanced level in oral (C)
