The Wastewater Process Specialist/Engineer position is a critical role for delivering Jacobs’ projects in the municipal wastewater industry locally and nationally. The candidate will lead ongoing and upcoming projects that are driven by Canada’s population growth targets and evolving environmental standards. The candidate will
- Work with Jacobs’ global team of experts to support municipal wastewater treatment planning, modelling, design, construction, and facility operation projects based on established standards and software.
- Work with a variety of treatment processes that may include a combination of conventional and advanced chemical, physical, and biological processes such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, secondary biological treatment, nutrient removal and recovery, membrane systems, disinfection, and solids handling/stabilization processes
- Use their expertise in process modelling, water chemistry and quality, physical and biological treatment processes and equipment, and applicable regulations to lead process engineering teams in the production of meaningful solutions to local and national project challenges
- Develop of engineering studies, reports, drawings, specifications, contract documents, proposals, and cost estimates with limited direction; and provide construction administration services and field engineering services during construction as needed
- Represent Jacobs at select events and conferences.
Here's what you'll need
- Masters in Chemical Engineering is required
- PhD in Chemical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering with a focus on biological wastewater treatment is an asset
- Licensed as a professional engineer in the province of Ontario or eligible to be licensed
- 10+ years of engineering experience working on municipal and industrial wastewater treatment projects including chemical and biological nutrient removal, nutrient recovery, biosolids treatment, and anaerobic and low operation systems
- Advanced knowledge of commercial wastewater process modelling software including modelling experience for design, optimization, and operational troubleshooting for municipal wastewater treatment plants (example commercial platforms include SUMO, BioWin, GPS-X, SIMBA)
- Demonstrated understanding of process and process mechanical design and wastewater unit processes and technologies
- Experience with engineering calculations and modelling for wastewater treatment equipment sizing and selection
- Experience delivering municipal design/bid/build (DBB) projects in Canada including preparation of design reports, drawings, and specifications
- Experience assisting project managers and multidisciplinary and multi-office project teams on projects
- Experience managing and coordinating multiple disciplines on projects, including the ability to successfully manage scope, schedule, and budget
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (proposals, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction
- A willingness and ability to travel to project sites inaccessible by public transit
