We are looking for a Lab Support Analyst to join our Lab Support team in Burnaby!
The Lab Support Analyst works under the supervision of the Manager, Lab Support Analyst to review Simulator’s requirements & design, work with Simulator Hardware design, troubleshoot (electrical, network & OS), repair, configure, maintain, document the configuration of the in-house lab equipment / simulators and progress to meet projects milestones within budget.

We are looking for a Lab Support Analyst to join our Lab Support team in Burnaby!
The Lab Support Analyst works under the supervision of the Manager, Lab Support Analyst to review Simulator’s requirements & design, work with Simulator Hardware design, troubleshoot (electrical, network & OS), repair, configure, maintain, document the configuration of the in-house lab equipment / simulators and progress to meet projects milestones within budget.
Key Requirements:
- Capable of reading and understanding system diagrams, assembly drawings, wiring lists, schematics, and functional block diagrams to aid in the configuration, trouble shooting and management of systems like simulators
- Thorough understanding of equipment error codes and equipped with the design documentation is able to work on their own to trouble shoot and resolve simulators’ issues in quick manner to reduce simulator downtime
- Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs simulator Hardware issues
- Communicates and coordinates(proactive) help from other departments as a last resort to resolve simulator issues quickly
- Installs OS (Windows/ Linux based/ Virtual Machine) on PC/Servers, drivers and configure
- Configures network switch and routers
- Troubleshoots and resolves basic to medium network issues
- Reviews simulator requirements and provide feedback or comments to Simulator HW Design team in Toronto
- Conducts tests on in-house Simulator systems and performs Hardware FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) as per the procedures from the hardware designers
- Works closely with Simulator HW Design, review, recommend design changes/updates as needed
- Implement designs in accordance with good design practices and applicable workmanship standards and guidelines
- Generates purchase requisitions as necessary to support the maintenance and repair of simulator/tool system and follows up with procurement
- Maintains configuration control of the lab hardware and software
- Maintains layout drawings of in-house simulator systems
- Allocates laboratory space as necessary for new HW
- Calibrates Test & Measurement Devices as per calibration intervals following the handbook
- Coordinates simulator validation on a yearly basis before expiry date
- Stays current with technology and new company products
- Ensures Lab operates to the company practices for HSE
- Maintains a clean and organized lab operation
- Works closely with the Toronto Lab team to ensure implementation of Toronto Lab best practices are deployed and maintained
- Presents technical design proposals and reports to other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and unambiguous terms
- Has the ability to present the department’s position and effectively represent its interests
- Good interpersonal skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization
- Ensures that assigned projects proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements - including revising plans and forecasts as required to accommodate changes in circumstances
- Contributes to bid estimates for new or proposed programs, including an assessment of foreseeable risks with the Toronto Lab management team
- Plans and carry out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision, and in accordance with company and departmental processes
- Prepares and supports preparation of capital budgets for future projects
- Ensures application of standards, practices/procedures, quality assurance, adherence to budgets to meet project milestones
- An intimate knowledge of Work Instructions and the QMS requirements
- Promotes company project management and financial control principles and methods as required by the manager
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on (Electronics) experience in similar industries: Ground Transportation, Aviation, Automotive, Hydro, etc.
- Understands electronic circuits and hardware connection diagrams
- Experience using the following test equipment: oscilloscopes, multi-meters, protocol analyzers and spectrum analyzers
- Good knowledge of networks and network troubleshooting
- Serial (RS232,422,485) knowledge and TCP/IP knowledge
- OS installation knowledge in Windows, Linux and VMs
- Ability to troubleshoot basic to intermediate network issues
- Knowledge of hardware design to perform simulator customization
- Experience using the following software tools: AutoCAD, SAP, MS Office and Visio
- Able to lift and carry boxes of up to 50 lbs. - Physical set-up of lab equipment including, lifting servers, computer equipment; movement of equipment racks; running of cables and using hand tools for physical assembly
- Able to work extra hours, weekends, holidays, as required by the business
- Able to be on call to support projects when requested or required by the business
