As an Application Specialist reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Technology, you’ll play a key role in aligning technology solutions with organizational needs. Acting as the bridge between business owners, the Business Technology (BT) team, users, and third-party vendors, you’ll develop a strong understanding of both operational requirements and the capabilities of BT’s Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications.
In this role, you’ll analyze business processes, translate needs into effective technical solutions, manage and configure COTS applications, and support users through training and guidance, ensuring our systems deliver real value across the organization.

In this role, you’ll analyze business processes, translate needs into effective technical solutions, manage and configure COTS applications, and support users through training and guidance, ensuring our systems deliver real value across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and maintain COTS platforms and related applications.
- Work closely with internal interested parties to analyze business processes and maintain system configuration to meet business needs.
- Collaborate with interested parties to analyze, prioritize, and implement change requests for system enhancements.
- Serve as the key point of contact between the organization and system vendors, ensuring that business requirements are communicated effectively to the vendor, and system changes are communicated to internal interested parties.
- Work with vendors to perform system updates, ensuring new features and functionality are implemented seamlessly, and that any maintenance updates go live without any issues.
- Understand impacts of new features or maintenance updates on configuration and integrations, and ensure all functionality is fully tested prior to going live.
- Develop and deliver training sessions for end-users to ensure they are proficient in the use of COTS platforms and related applications.
- Create and update user guides and other training materials for internal interested parties.
- Provide ongoing support for end-users, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with system adoption.
- Keep current on COTS and AI developments by participating in vendor communities/online forums, staying current on new functionality, participating in user groups, etc.
What you need to succeed
- 5 years of relevant work experience administering and configuring COTS systems and integrations.
- Experience with COTS implementations, from requirements through to configuration and testing.
- Experience managing and implementing ongoing releases of COTS systems.
- Experience creating end-user training materials for technology solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of COTS systems.
- Strong business analysis skills for transforming defined business needs into technical specifications for system configuration.
- Knowledge of release planning, implementing new features/functionality from COTS vendors.
- Experience with AI tools for data analysis is an asset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical interested parties.
- Strong interviewing and listening skills to elicit and understand detailed business requirements.
- Excellent analytical skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
- Demonstrated judgement, initiative, resourcefulness, tact, and discretion.
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, business administration, or a related field.
- Business Analysis Certification (e.g., Prosci)
- Change Management Certification (e.g., CBAP)
- Project Management certification (e.g., Agile, PMP)
- Advanced oral and written skills in English are required, with oral and written skills in French considered an asset
