The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Systems Operations, as the Canada Gas Control Center Manager you will be primarily responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Gas Control Center and execution of the transport of natural gas through TC Energy facilities in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner, in accordance with both regulatory and customer requirements. These facilities include all of TC Energy’s Canadian natural gas systems including Coastal GasLink, Nova Gas Transmission Limited, Ventures, Foothills Pipelines, Canadian Mainline, Trans Quebec Maritimes pipeline systems.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Systems Operations, as the Canada Gas Control Center Manager you will be primarily responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Gas Control Center and execution of the transport of natural gas through TC Energy facilities in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner, in accordance with both regulatory and customer requirements. These facilities include all of TC Energy’s Canadian natural gas systems including Coastal GasLink, Nova Gas Transmission Limited, Ventures, Foothills Pipelines, Canadian Mainline, Trans Quebec Maritimes pipeline systems.
What You’ll Do
- Working collaboratively with Commercial Operations and other TC stakeholders to develop and execute a strategy to improve pipeline system operational performance (safety, reliability, efficiency, and risk).
- Manage the 24/7 Operations Control Center and schedule of required resources to maintain a 24/7 operation
- Ensure successful execution of daily operating and outage plans
- Communicate higher-level strategies, objectives and interpretation for this functional area as well as establish functional priorities
- Lead individual contributors and supervisors, including qualification, development, training, and progression within this functional area
- Facilitate smooth interaction of Gas Control with other areas of TC Energy as well as with connecting operators and customers, both internal and external
- Facilitate execution of operational decisions, consistent with the customer service and shareholder objectives
- Facilitate facility, systems, tools and procedure improvements in support of Control Room operations
- Provide emergency management support and act as Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for your functional area
- Manage the emergency line external service provider
- Provide on call rotational support to the Gas Control function and participate in Incident Support Team
- Develop and manage budget for your area, including operational support and licensing of the Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system by an internal service provider
- Coordinate with internal and external service providers to ensure the control room and backup center meet the needs of the team and 24/7 operations
- Set the overall direction for Gas Control with regard to change management, including ensuring team and facility readiness for operating new Canada Gas assets
- Sponsor and support of the Gas Control Quality Management system for the purposes of continuous improvement
- Organize and lead tours of the Operations center for both internal and external parties
- Develop and foster an environment which actively enables and encourages employee innovation, continuous improvement and commitment to operational excellence
- Other tasks as required
- 10-15 years of relevant gas pipeline operations experience
- Post-secondary education (technical diploma, university degree, or an equivalent credential)
- Formal leadership experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
- Good working knowledge of pipeline hydraulics and associated gas transmission facilities
- Familiarity with the 24X7 shift work environment would be considered an asset
- Understanding of ISO 9001-2008 based Quality Management systems would also be considered an asset
- Demonstrated track record in enhancing operational excellence (performance)
- Proven decision making and leadership skills, specifically during stressful operational situations
- Demonstrated leadership in fostering and developing high performing teams and change management
- Experience with conflict resolution and problem-solving tools / processes
- Excellent attitude and communication skills as demonstrated through interactions with peers, employees as well as internal and external customers
- This position requires candidates to:
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
- Successfully complete a security clearance/criminal record check
- This position is eligible for domestic relocation assistance, but is not eligible for cross-border relocation assistance
