The Dietary Aide is responsible for supporting the kitchen team in preparing and serving meals to residents and clients at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This position plays a key role in ensuring that meals meet dietary and nutritional requirements, are served in a timely and appealing manner, and comply with safety and hygiene standards. The Dietary Aide also contributes to the efficient operation of dietary services, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals to residents and clients in a timely manner, ensuring meals meet dietary requirements, are served at the proper temperature, and are visually appealing, while accommodating individual dietary needs based on healthcare staff instructions and preferences.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas, ensuring adherence to food safety standards and Health Canada regulations related to food storage, handling, and sanitation.
- Collaborate with nursing and healthcare staff to ensure that residents’ dietary needs are consistently met and address any changes in dietary requirements or preferences.
- Follow specific dietary instructions (e.g., low-sodium, diabetic, gluten-free) and preferences as prescribed by healthcare staff, ensuring all resident needs are met.
- Ensure that all duties, including proper food handling techniques and infection control procedures, comply with relevant regulations, including Ontario’s Long-Term Care Act and any other applicable health and safety legislation.
- Assist in monitoring and replenishing food and supply inventories, notifying supervisor of shortages or discrepancies.

Education & Certifications:
- Food Service Worker Program Certification or ability to complete within 18 months of hire.
- Valid Food Handler Certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dietary or food service role, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in following dietary guidelines, portion sizes, and sanitation procedures to ensure the health and satisfaction of residents.
- Communication: Verbal communication abilities to interact with residents, clients, colleagues, and guests ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust to changing schedules, resident or client needs, and organizational requirements.
- Customer Service: Demonstrates a resident/ client -focused approach, ensuring a positive dining experience by responding to residents' needs with empathy, patience, and respect.
- Dietary Knowledge: Familiarity with common dietary restrictions and the ability to assist with preparing and serving meals in accordance with resident-specific dietary requirements including knowledge and understanding of all therapeutic and texture modified diets.
- Food Safety and Sanitation: Strong understanding of food safety principles, sanitation practices, and infection prevention and control measures specific to a Long-Term Care setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience using food service management software and electronic documentation systems.
- Time Management & Organization: Ability to prioritize meal preparation tasks, coordinate tray assembly and delivery schedules, and maintain an orderly workspace to ensure timely and efficient food service in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Emotional Resilience: Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and composed in emotionally demanding situations.
- Work is performed primarily in a kitchen and dining room setting within the Glen Stor Dun Lodge.
- Flexible to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as per the facility's needs.
- Cognitive demands include needing to be highly organized with a focus on time management to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical demands include extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting of heavy items
- Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
