Job Summary & Responsibilities

District Speech-Language Pathologists provide support for students with a broad range of communication difficulties. Students who are involved in the speech-language pathology program may have communication difficulties in the areas of language development, social language, articulation, fluency, and voice. At the Kindergarten to Grade 5 level, support is provided on an itinerant basis, and ranges from direct to indirect services. Service may include assessment, individual or group therapy, participation on School-Based Teams/Learning Services Teams, and consultation with teachers, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies, where appropriate. At the Middle and Secondary School levels, service is limited to consultation. This is a one year temporary position or until the return of the incumbent, which ever comes first.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology or equivalent
  • Must be registered with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC (CSHHPBC)
  • Certification with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada, (SAC) preferred
  • Must be able to provide a continuum of services ranging from consultation to co-teaching to direct speech-language therapy to school-aged students with a wide variety of communication difficulties
  • Demonstrated experience in collaboration for IEP development
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work with school-aged children
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of School Based and Integrated Case Management teams
  • Demonstrated ability to administer, score and interpret standardized and informal assessments
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to liaise with outside agencies

  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
