About the role: We’re seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence Architect to lead our data strategy and analytics initiatives. This role bridges the gap between raw data and strategic insights, helping the company make data-driven decisions across operations, finance, and portfolio management. You'll collaborate with stakeholders, design scalable data solutions, and develop compelling dashboards and models to visualize business performance—especially within a private equity operating context.

The successful candidate will work from close to our offices in Toronto / Hybrid.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Data Strategy & Governance

  • Act as the strategic liaison for aligning enterprise data strategy with business objectives.
  • Create and centralize data connections across platforms (e.g., Sage Intacct), within a governed and standardized data framework.
  • Champion DRY (Don’t Repeat Yourself) development principles and scalable data infrastructure.
  • Define and implement data governance policies to ensure consistency, accuracy, and security across systems.
  • Build reusable routines for collaborative reporting and company-wide analytics enablement.

Build and Optimize Data Solutions

  • Design and maintain robust data models for consistent and accurate representation across business domains.
  • Transform raw data into structured datasets using ETL tools and best practices.
  • Develop and optimize Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize key performance indicators (KPIs), trends, and insights.
  • Ensure ongoing optimization and performance tuning of Power BI solutions.

Data Analysis & Business Insight Delivery

  • Perform deep data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Construct predictive and descriptive analytics models to support strategic initiatives.
  • Translate technical findings into business-friendly insights to drive value creation and efficiency.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, and leadership to deliver visibility into company and portfolio-level performance.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Training

  • Work closely with business users, portfolio company teams, and internal departments to gather and translate data needs into technical solutions.
  • Train and support end-users in navigating and utilizing Power BI dashboards and analytics tools.
  • Support deal execution teams by contributing to financial modeling, diligence activities, and performance tracking of portfolio companies.

Support Private Equity-Specific Data Needs

  • Understand the private equity investment lifecycle, from deal sourcing to post-investment monitoring.
  • Provide analytics support for investment decisions, deal execution, and operational improvements across portfolio companies.
  • Drive insights to support value creation planning, portfolio monitoring, and board reporting.

Key Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Power BI (desktop and service), including DAX, data modeling, and dashboard development are mandatory.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL).
  • Experience with big data tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Teradata).
  • Solid understanding of data governance, architecture, and best practices.
  • Proven track record in building data models and delivering actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in project and stakeholder management.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with Datameer, Tableau, or other BI tools.
  • Familiarity with private equity (PE) or venture capital (VC) operations.
  • Background in financial modeling or deal analysis.
  • Automation skills using Python or PySpark.
  • Experience with implementing enterprise data platforms and analytics strategies.
