Purpose
Provide support to the operational side of the organization through effective collection and analysis of plant data. The position will also be responsible for proposing, executing, and/or managing projects aimed at improving the efficiency of the processing plant.
The incumbent provides input and offers his/her expertise and knowledge to the Metallurgical Superintendent/Mill Coordinator to help support decisions affecting production, maintenance, operational, and safety issues.

Purpose

The incumbent provides input and offers his/her expertise and knowledge to the Metallurgical Superintendent/Mill Coordinator to help support decisions affecting production, maintenance, operational, and safety issues.
Safety and Sustainability Expectations
- Ensure regulatory and inter-company environmental and safety procedural compliance, including compliance with Newmont Safety Rules. Generate competent, workable, and safe mill process changes, plans and measure performance and effectiveness of existing designs and systems. Wear PPE at all times while in production environment. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions.
Research and prepare metallurgical information and reports.
- Create and analyze databases to gather information and improve performance and production and reduce costs.
- Gather information and perform analysis to assist in determining the budget and plan for mill metallurgical needs.
- Carry out routine plant sampling and test work to support operations and project work.
- Research and recommend physical and chemical methods to separate minerals and metals from their ores.
- Oversee fine carbon sampling, preparation, shipping, and accounting.
- Monitor and report on reagent consumption in the mill.
- Complete daily and month-end metallurgical accounting.
- Direct sampling from various stages of processing for laboratory analysis and testing.
- Investigate whether methods being used are the cheapest, most efficient, and environmentally acceptable.
- Identify and implement plant improvement opportunities; lead small- to medium-scale projects through to completion.
- Optimize circuit performance and reagent usage to minimize cost.
- Provide information on mill process metallurgy, production, and cost.
- Organize work plans, prioritize, and administer processes and procedures to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
- Direct operator activities for circuit checks and accurately measure key milling parameters.
- University degree in mineral processing or Chemical Engineering or a 3-year Diploma in Metallurgical Technology.
- 3-5 years of experience in a minerals processing environment.
- Ability to lead projects and see them through to completion.
- Cyanide detoxification technology. (would be an asset)
- Gold hydrometallurgical experience.
- Rod and ball mill operational experience.
- CIP operational experience.
- Gravity gold extraction experience.
- Ability to use in-house computer systems including Microsoft package and the PI system.
