The Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC) is a unique collection of waste processing and research facilities. Owned and operated by the City of Edmonton, the EWMC is an integral part of Edmonton's sustainable approach to waste management.
We are looking for people across all our rich diversity to join the EWMC’s family as a Bin Truck Operator in the Waste Services Branch, where you will be responsible for the operation of transportation of materials and equipment to and from job sites within the Edmonton Waste Management Center. We are looking for people across all our rich diversity to join the EWMC’s family as a Bin Truck Operator in the Waste Services Branch, where you will be responsible for the operation of transportation of materials and equipment to and from job sites within the Edmonton Waste Management Center. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.
What will you do?
- Operate tandem axle dump truck for transportation of materials and equipment to and from job sites
- Ensure materials are transferred within a safe manner
- Perform light maintenance inspections on trucks (checking oil, tires, and air brakes) and complete any documents as required
- Follow the policies and procedures of any facilities that material is delivered to
- Ensure the project abides by any applicable City of Edmonton Occupational Health & Safety Standards and Guidelines
- Ensure the highest standards of performance are maintained according to the safety program or site safety program
- Attend and participate in safety meetings and advice of any health and safety concerns
- Perform other related duties as required that include (but not limited to) working and assisting at the Residential Transfer Station (RTS), various site maintenance tasks including; lawn maintenance, maintaining flower beds, repairs to signage and miscellaneous areas on site
- Completion of the eighth school grade supplemented by experience in the operation of motor vehicles (Class 3 & air brake mandatory) or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to drive the truck in the designated weight range
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, including taking direction from others
- Ability to work independently under minimal or no supervision
- Ability to work safely and in compliance with the safety standards and policies outlined by the City is the requirement of the position

- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of this position
- Applicants may be tested
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the duties assigned to the position, specifically in the presence of various weather and environmental conditions such as dust and noise
- Rotating shifts to provide 24-hour coverage, 7 days per week. Overtime work may be required during peak operational periods
