Here's how a Design Manager for our Toronto office contributes to our team:
Responsibilities
- Provides overall contract administration, technical expertise, and support to a medium size construction project.
- Communicates and drives design submissions and schedules to meet permitting, procurement,construction, commissioning, and handover requirements.
- Manages and communicates the flow of design information and feedback between the owners, designers,and internal teams to align with the project execution plan.
- Writes the Design Management Plan for the project and conveys the information to the design team toensure project execution times lines are met.
- Writes and revises the rules related to key design management processes such as RFIs, SIs, changemanagement etc.
- Establishes and drives design deviation request (DDR) process and User Groups as required by contract.
- Capitalizes on the opportunity to influence design in the schematic and development stage.
- The primary point of contact for all feedback to and from the design team relating to designer and owner design documents, reports, and presentation materials.
- Responds to client comments while balancing compliance with the contract and risk management withrespect to PCL and subcontractor costs.
- Ensures the team is meeting compliance and contractual obligations and notify the team of any risksrelating to this.
- Other related duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Postsecondary education or training in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in construction management as a Project Manager, Risk Manager, or a related role.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Design Manager on major projects with complex elements such as fast track, heritage, P3, design build etc.
- Gold Seal certification required (CDN); LEED, PMP, and P.Eng designation considered an asset.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate meetings by encouraging collaboration and problem solving.
- Demonstrated experience implementing a strong safety culture by application of health, safety, and environment principles and legislation.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers
