The Opportunity:
We are seeking applications for the full- time position of Reporter covering Surrey, which is B.C.'s second-most populous city, for the Vancouver Sun and The Province. The Reporter is a highly motivated journalist with superior news judgment, eager to experiment with digital storytelling and engage with readers. The position is in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, and the journalist reports directly to the City Editor.

What you'll do:
- The successful applicant will create high-impact content for print and online, writing analysis and features with authority and a strong voice.
- Will take on a critical beat in the newsroom focused on making sense of civic trends in Surrey, home to a rapidly growing city centre south of the Fraser River with a diverse population that is expected to surpass Vancouver in the coming years. The range of topics includes the housing affordability, transportation, and livability.
- This journalist will embrace the newsroom's mission to help a diverse population thrive amidst the complexities of living in an expensive, fast-growing region surrounded by natural beauty.
- We seek someone committed to ambitious enterprise journalism, holding decision makers accountable and engaging with readers to explore the most important issues in their lives.
- Experience writing both news features and analysis is a must. As is excellent news judgment, strong writing and editing skills, and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively on projects
- Set priorities for exclusive coverage, contextualize events and trends, and work independently.
- Strong commitment to audience engagement through multi-media initiatives such as video, live streamed events and digital newsletters.
- Superior news gathering, writing and inter-personal skills are essential.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other journalists to ensure timely and comprehensive coverage.
- Position is based on a nine-day fortnight rotation with superior pay, pension, and benefits.
