About the Role
At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we’ve been helping people in crisis since 1928. As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. The Counsellor in the Richmond Counselling Program supports individuals, children, youth, couples and families to discover their strengths and move forward with their lives. Counsellors provide individual, couples or group counselling to support people dealing with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, life transitions, the impacts of trauma, relationship difficulties and grief and loss. The Richmond Counselling Program provides counselling from a feminist, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive lens

- Master's Degree in Social Work, Counselling or Clinical Psychology or equivalent, Minimum 3 years experience in a clinical setting
- Current registration with a regulatory body: RSW, CCC or RCC
- Solid understanding of the best practices in trauma-informed counselling including expressive therapy, somatic psychotherapy, neuroscience, attachment, family systems
- Excellent clinical counselling skills with children, youth and families including play and expressive arts-based therapies, individual, family and group counselling
- Excellent intake and assessment skills and ability to adapt service plans to meet client’s individual needs
- Knowledge, skills and experience in working with a diverse client population, who have been impacted by poverty, abuse, neglect, addiction, mental health issues
- Skills to adopt a culturally sensitive anti-oppressive resiliency framework in supporting clients
- Competence in report writing, and sufficient administrative skills to maintain the agency’s CARF accreditation standards - familiarity with JaneApp an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of community resources and strong ability to work collaboratively with community partners
- Second language (Chinese) would be an asset, but is not required
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
