Mission

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is looking to hire a Batchman - Concrete based in Prince George, BC.

Main Responsibilities

Employee Supervision

  • Provide clear instruction, coaching, and leadership to plant personnel to maximize productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and hazard assessments; ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and corporate policies.
  • Promote professionalism, neatness, and courteous behavior among staff.
  • Report significant issues or incidents to the Regional Concrete Supervisor for appropriate follow-up.

Operations Supervision

  • Ensure timely, efficient, and specification-compliant concrete deliveries.
  • Optimize the use of plant equipment, mixers, and trucks for cost-effective operations.
  • Coordinate with other ready-mix operations to share resources and improve efficiency.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and repairs; communicate status updates to the Regional Concrete Supervisor.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-functioning facilities and equipment.
  • Collaborate daily with the Regional Concrete Supervisor to align on operational goals.

Quality Control and Assurance

  • Ensure all concrete meets or exceeds required standards and specifications.
  • Follow and enforce the company’s quality control plan.
  • Uphold high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
  • Support the implementation of new technologies and products.

Sales

  • Deliver exceptional customer service through professional and courteous interactions.
  • Represent the company positively within the community and with clients and suppliers.
  • Promote value-added products to enhance profitability.

Batching Duties

  • Schedule and coordinate concrete orders to maximize productivity and minimize overtime.
  • Maintain accurate raw material inventory and ensure availability for scheduled orders.
  • Communicate work schedules and expectations clearly to employees.
  • Provide pricing information and confirm payment or account status for all orders.
  • Maintain real-time communication with drivers to ensure quality and scheduling alignment.
  • Accurately take and confirm concrete orders, asking key questions to avoid errors.
  • Perform weekly plant inspections and ensure cleanliness and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Ensure all delivery tickets, timecards, and paperwork are completed accurately and submitted daily.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong customer service and telephone communication skills
  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental best practices
  • Proficient in computer systems; experience with Command Batch is a strong asset
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of batching systems, wash plant operations, and related equipment
  • Experience with aggregate moisture testing and water system calibration

Training/Education

  • ACI Field Testing Certificate (an asset)
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 (an asset)
  • Loader operation experience (an asset)
  • Class 1 or 3 license (an asset)

Compensation Data

The anticipated hourly wage for this position is minimum $37.08. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
