Black & McDonald’s Facilities Management & Operations team in BC is growing! The Building Operator is located at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC and reports directly to the Facility Manager.
Under specific direction, the FMO Building Operator responds to tenant requests, performs preventive maintenance inspections, and minor repairs, to ensure continuing operation. This position involves working a rotating 12 hour shift schedule (two days on, two nights on, four days off). The Building Operator will fulfill day to day tasks in a timely manner ensuring that the building operates safely and efficiently. The position also requires compliance with Black & McDonald codes of conduct, health, safety and environmental policies and safe work practices along with any client specific protocol.
Expected compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $36.33-45.42/hour in accordance with union rates (dependent on skills and experience and trade certifications).

- Respond to tenant requests.
- Perform shift tours and log readings
- Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, painting
- Perform minor repairs including: faucets, sinks, clear toilets and drains, cleaning grease traps and sumps, replace lamps, reset breakers
- Maintain the cleanliness of all shops and mechanical rooms
- Observe and implement safe work practices

- 4th class power engineer certificate preferred
- Other trade certificates would be an asset
- Building operations experience preferred
- Basic knowledge and/or experience in building automated systems and HVAC systems
- Must be able to speak, read & write in English
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
- Follow instructions both written and verbal
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customer
- Accomplish all duties and tasks as assigned
- Maintain clear and courteous two way radio and/or phone etiquette
- A team player, committed to working in a quality environment
- Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards
- Bending and Lifting Required; Lifting under 30 kgs
- Must be able to work on ladder or scaffold at various heights
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to work a rotating 12 hour shift in a union environment
- Must be able to pass RCMP Criminal Record Check
