JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Manager Design and Construction is responsible for managing capital and operational projects on schedule and within budget to achieve quality facilities and to provide technical support to school administration and facilities Managers. The Project Manager Design and Construction is responsible for planning and coordinating with consultants, contractors and various stakeholders.


QUALIFICATIONS:



Education & Experience:

2 -3-year Specialized Community College program in Building Environmental Systems diploma or Construction Engineering Diploma. A minimum of 4-6 years of experience.


SKILLS REQUIRED:

Specific knowledge of:

  • Construction and building costs
  • Organization structure and policies

Technical knowledge of:

  • Construction drawings, specifications and tender documents
  • Familiarity with engineering disciplines and practices

Competencies:

  • Ability to use various software programs such as MS project
  • Ability to write inspection reports
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Project management skills
  • Effective communication skills with employees, departments, suppliers, managers and contractors
  • A range of interpersonal skills



BRIEF LIST OF DUTIES:

  • Conducts site visits to project locations, reviews and approves changes to contract, issues applicable documents, reviews progress payments, recommends approvals to project conflict resolution, interprets regulations and inspects roof conditions and water chlorination treatment rooms
  • Directs general contractors, architects and consultants throughout the project, reviews and approves site instructions, site reports, coordinates building turnover and occupancy and obtains approvals from municipal and provincial agencies
  • Conducts research on emerging trends, provides input for new design and specifications to meet project budgets, and prepares and communicates project plans to implement new designs and solutions
  • Prepares reports, project schedules and updates for committee members and community groups
  • Reviews design drawings from Architects and contractors
  • Project manage capital roofing projects, Ministry databases, and Water Safety Act regulations

  • Provides technical advice and review to other departments
  • Provides support to other project managers
