About The Role

As ATB’s next Operational Risk Specialist, you will function as the First Line of Defence (FLOD) risk and be responsible for continuous risk oversight for execution of risk identification, risk assessment, and recommendation of risk treatment strategies, monitoring of key risk indicators (KRI) within Client Experience and Technology (CXT). Your focus is to partner and collaborate with team members across CXT and work together to identify, inform, and report on risks and test the effectiveness of controls. As a strong connector and influencer you act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders to identify opportunities to enhance controls and processes, all the while keeping the Customer Experience top of mind.

Accountabilities

  • Implement and support the continuous improvement of risk management processes by executing risk identification, risk assessment, treatment, and monitoring activities, as well as collaborating with senior leadership and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with ATB’s strategy and risk appetite
  • Execute all accountabilities and responsibilities of first line risk in accordance with applicable published risk frameworks
  • Assist in planning, oversight and delivery of risk reporting activities to senior leadership and ATB Financial
  • Support the maintenance and certification of the Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) program
  • Partner with team members at all levels, including senior management to cascade a culture of risk management
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to translate data effectively
  • Apply strong influencing skills, cultivate a trusted partner relationship between risk partners and other areas of the enterprise
  • Prepare risk assessments, reports, and risk-related presentations to assess the risk in CXT's critical processes, and challenge those created by other team members
  • Facilitate identification of remediation plans to address those processes,where they may be higher residual risk as compared to ATB's risk appetite
  • Coach other team members across the Client Experience and Technology (CXT) organization in risk identification, risk controls, and risk treatment
  • Collaborate and partner to build an effective risk culture, providing insight and strategies around how to improve and reimagine the way work is done
  • Understand how emerging initiatives modify previously identified risks
  • Assess trends in activities and processes which result in risk or compliance gaps across CXT
  • Provide insight and input on key risk indicators; and identification of effective metrics for key performance indicators which can provide leadership teams with the data they require to support improvements in customer experience and operational efficiencies
  • Think outside of the box when completing risk assessments for existing processes or new initiatives, and ensuring a holistic risk approach is applied; identifying risks for today’s initiatives and layering onto it the complexity of fraud trends, compliance requirements, AI, banking trends, and impacts changes to processes or initiatives may have on other areas of the organization or customer experience
  • Proactively analyze potential risks and ensure those risks are aggregated / escalated to the appropriate risk owners

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • University Degree in risk management/business administration/finance or other related area
  • 5+ years in risk management, or of related industry experience with strong knowledge of processes, risks and controls or exposure to operational functions; risk management, audit, Internal Controls Experience, operational risk management practices, and operational risk management tools such as risk and control self assessments, internal loss data, and key risk indicators
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to identify, prioritize, frame and clearly articulate issues related to operational and strategic risk management, with the ability to work with different position levels within the organization
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects to deliver results in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong decision making capabilities and the ability to resource with internal partners, or related industry resources
  • Financial institution experience preferred
  • Strong critical-thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, to recognize and resolve complex issues and devise creative solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills, with the ability to deliver technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences in a clear and understandable manner
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and effective work habits, as well as being an influencer of others
