Position: Adult, Youth, and/or Child Worker

Reports to: Program Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Adult, Youth, and/or Child Worker assists children and youth in developing life skills, social skills, and/or accessing community resources. They provide individual care and guidance tailored to the needs of individuals with mental health issues, behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, or addictions. The role includes providing stabilization through predictable structures, clear expectations, and positive behavior support.

Successful candidates must be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team context and demonstrate skills in basic counseling, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Information Gathering: Collects information relevant to the individual’s problems, needs, and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, meeting with caregivers and service providers, and utilizing inventories, checklists, and questionnaires. Reviews the information to identify problems, needs, and risks.

Intervention Planning: Develops and implements short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor.

Support Delivery: Plans, prepares, and conducts group or individual support sessions using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counseling, and psycho-educational methods to address identified problems, needs, and risks.

Skill Building: Provides skill development in areas such as parenting, anger management, or self-management techniques.

Evaluation: Evaluates the effectiveness of intervention plans, reports on individuals’ progress, and discusses related concerns with the supervisor to resolve issues and achieve objectives.

Service Navigation: Outlines program and organizational services and provides referrals to other community resources as needed.

Record Keeping: Maintains records and statistics and submits reports to the supervisor as required.

Advocacy: Liaises with community service providers, professionals, and school personnel as required. Accompanies individuals to meetings and appointments.

Household Maintenance: Performs household upkeep activities such as minor repairs, lawn mowing, painting, and other daily maintenance tasks.

Personal Care: Ensures individuals’ physical needs are met, including assistance with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration per established guidelines.

Team Contribution: Participates in staff meetings and contributes to team effectiveness through clear communication.

Policy Familiarity: Regularly reviews and adheres to Milieu Children & Family Services policies, procedures, protocols, and individual care plans.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

A diploma in human/social services or a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

A minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or physical, medical, or behavioral support needs (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Demonstrated ability to facilitate relationships and expand personal support networks for persons served.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Negative TB test clearance.

Food Safe Certification (if required).

Provincial Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults (Clearance).

MCFD Criminal Record Check (Youth).

Clear health certificate.

Able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs.

Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Class 5 driver’s license (Class 4 unrestricted and personal vehicle with business insurance and $3M liability, if required for the location).

Clear and current driver’s abstract.

Mandt Certification (training provided upon successful application).
