School District No. 57 (Prince George) respectfully acknowledges that our schools reside on the unceded ancestral lands of the Lheidli T’enneh people in Prince George and McBride, the McLeod Lake Indian Band in the Mackenzie region, as well as the Simpcw First Nation in Valemount.

Located in British Columbia’s interior region, School District No. 57, serves approximately 13,000 students and 2,000 staff in the communities and surrounding areas of Prince George, Mackenzie, McBride and Valemount. The region boasts a diverse landscape of forests, rivers, and mountains, offering reasonable housing costs and deep community roots. POSITION TITLE : District Principal, Indigenous Education

DEPARTMENT : Indigenous Education

REPORTS TO : Assistant Superintendent, Indigenous Education


SUMMARY

As a strong, inclusive leader and steward for public education, the District Principal is a vital member of the Indigenous Education department. The successful candidate will champion Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in fostering educational opportunities that provide access for all. The District Principal shall work collaboratively with the department to lead education district wide. They will strengthen organizational leadership, increase system capacity, and prioritize the implementation of key strategies to meet the Board’s strategic goals. In addition, the District Principal will support and provide expertise in the areas of Indigenous learning, Truth and Reconciliation and the building of a culture of collaboration in order to improve student engagement and success for Indigenous learners.



RESPONSIBILITES


Human Resource Management



  • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent, IEC in the recruitment and supporting of teaching staff



Fiscal Responsibility



  • Develops a departmental budget within the parameters and constraints of the District budget



  • Ensures proper fiscal management of the budget allocations



  • Operates in a fiscally prudent responsible manner



Policy/Administrative Procedures



  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Board policy within areas of responsibility.



  • Provides leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Administrative Procedures within areas of responsibility.



  • Ensures application of Board policy and administrative procedures as required in the performance of duties.



Organizational Management



  • Within areas of responsibility, demonstrates effective organizational skills resulting in compliance with all legal, Ministerial and Board mandates and timelines and adherence to Superintendent directives.



  • Contributes to a District culture which facilitates positive results, effectively handles emergencies and deals with crisis situations in a team-oriented, collaborative and cohesive fashion.




  • Communications and Community Relations




  • Ongoing collaboration with IEC



  • Partnering with First Nations communities to develop and manage LEA’s



  • Takes appropriate actions to ensure open, transparent internal and external communications are developed and maintained in areas of responsibility



Ensures staff, students, and parents have a high level of satisfaction with the services provided and the responsiveness of the department.



Assistant Superintendent Relations



  • Establishes and maintains positive, professional working relations with the Assistant Superintendent.



  • Honours and facilitates the implementation of the Board's roles and responsibilities as defined in Board policy and encourages staff to do the same.



  • Provides information which the Assistant Superintendent requires to perform their role in an exemplary fashion.



  • Serves on such committees as determined by the Assistant Superintendent.

  • Experience in successfully planning and implementing individual supports to enable success for early learners with diverse abilities.



  • Experience leading learning for groups of educators in order to build educator capacity leading to improvements in student learning.



  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data to inform evidence informed decision- making.



  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.



  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team.



  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.



REQUIRED KNOWLWEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  • Master’s degree in curriculum, Leadership or Indigenous Studies or other relevant educational fields



  • Valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch



  • A minimum of three years of successful experience in a formal and or informal school or district based leadership
