Title: Volunteer Day Camps
Hours: PD Days throughout the school year and weekdays in July and August

The Opportunity
This position involves creating engagement opportunities for children and youth to promote physical activity, outdoor exploration, cooperative play, and community connections. Reporting to the Director of Day Camps, volunteers will work to deliver safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate programs that emphasize physical literacy as key to building healthy communities. Staff will implement fitness and wellness activities in line with YMCA standards, child safety requirements, and core values.

Reporting to the Director of Day Camps, volunteers will work to deliver safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate programs that emphasize physical literacy as key to building healthy communities. Staff will implement fitness and wellness activities in line with YMCA standards, child safety requirements, and core values.
Responsibilities
- Support staff in the delivery of hands-on programming and provide participants with a safe, inclusive, positive environment.
- Assist staff with program set-up and take-down, preparation of materials, cleaning, tidying, and other duties to keep camp activities safe, well-run, and on time.
- Assist staff in maintaining YMCA policies, etiquette, and safety requirements.
- Assist staff in completing program documentation as required, i.e. helping with attendance tracking.
- Build inclusive, positive working relationships with others.
- Report any known or predicted safety hazards.
- Assist the Camp staff with documenting any incidents or accidents, no matter how minor, and communicate these back to the Director and/or Site Coordinator on the same day.
- Experience working with children and youth as a babysitter, coach, youth group leader, or other similar role.
- Interest in supporting youth programming and engaging with children and youth.
- Ability to maintain a safe and organized environment.
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or related field an asset.
- Communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff.
