The Ausenco team is looking for an intermediate Water Quality Scientist to join our Water Resources Team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects around the world.. About The Role

In this role you will have the opportunity to apply your expertise and creative thinking to high profile projects and develop your professional career with a world-renowned company. Working closely with our Senior Aquatic Scientist and wider Water Resources team, you will have the opportunity to support our technical team with some of the following:

  • Conduct environmental assessments related to water quality, including baseline studies, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical assistance with interpretation of water quality guideline comparisons and applicability to project conditions.
  • Provide technical excellence on the development and review of conceptual and numerical water quality models and estimate impacts to the receiving environment (surface and groundwater).
  • Perform QA/QC of water quality data and manage laboratory and field team liaison.
  • Extract water quality data from ESDAT or similar databases and perform guideline comparisons and statistical summaries.
  • Work closely with the geochemistry, hydrology, and hydrogeology teams to interpret model outputs and inform water management strategies and planning.
  • Work closely with the risk assessment team to incorporate novel water management and mitigation strategies for improving project outcomes.
  • Lead water quality sampling field work programs through development, execution, and reporting.
  • Prepare advanced technical documentation and reports.
  • Support the Engineer/ Scientist of Record, where appropriate.
  • Support clients through regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Prepare detailed work scopes for proposals.
  • Project coordination and budgeting.

Job Requirements

  • Ideally five to seven years of experience in a similar role.
  • Technical background in water quality baseline and impact assessments.
  • Experience using GoldSim, and other numerical modelling programs is an asset.
  • Experience with water quality databases (e.g., ESDAT) is preferred.
  • University education in environmental science, toxicology, or biological sciences, or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred, but a Bachelors degree with significant work experience is considered equivalent to a graduate degree.
  • Professional Registration as a Registered Professional Biologist, Chemist or eligible for professional registration.
  • Experience with mining projects is preferred
  • Experience and aptitude for multidisciplinary work and dynamic team environments.
  • Interact competently with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of expertise.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – business and technical writing.

Salary range: $75K - $95Kannually
