The Information & Technology Services Unit requires a Network Support Specialist. Reporting into the Supervisor, Network & Infrastructure, this position will provide technical expertise and will play a key role in the support and implementation of network and infrastructure services in alignment with Toronto Community Housing’s cloud adoption strategy.

The Information & Technology Services Unit requires a Network Support Specialist. Reporting into the Supervisor, Network & Infrastructure, this position will provide technical expertise and will play a key role in the support and implementation of network and infrastructure services in alignment with Toronto Community Housing’s cloud adoption strategy.
What You’ll Do
- Provide second level expertise, on-site and remote support of LAN/WAN servers, network devices, wireless including the installation and configurations of network hardware, software and peripherals to ensure IT systems function efficiently and seamlessly.
- Plan and coordinate the installation of network infrastructure devices across the enterprise while ensuring safe networks with disaster recovery options.
- Apply in-depth experience with components of on-premises and cloud infrastructure to diagnose complex network, storage and server issues and implement corrective solutions.
- Collaborate with cloud project team to ensure seamless integration between network and cloud infrastructures
- Provide proactive network and server monitoring to ensure optimum network performance and acts on alerts of critical issues.
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations
- Configure, manage, and maintain Cisco ASA and NextGen Firewalls to ensure network security
- Ensure the performance of the Company's physical data and communications network through the monitoring of performance indicators and troubleshooting connectivity problems
- Act as a primary technical liaison between Infrastructure and other IT teams, vendors, partners, and the business to design and promote infrastructure solutions.
- Provide work direction for project team members regarding and project task deliverables and progress
- Implement and test disaster recovery procedures and network resiliency strategies in cloud networks to ensure business continuity
- Perform backup and recovery procedures to ensure the availability and integrity of the network environment
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability of production infrastructure and initiates corrective actions to ensure optimal network performance
- Respond to level 3 service desk requests to analyze patterns and trends, identify, escalate and remediate threats including root cause analysis
- Collaborate with Incident Manager in integrating event management alerts
- Support IT projects throughout project lifecycle including determining requirements, research, evaluation and solution recommendation
- Assists with development and upkeep of technical documentation, run books including disaster recovery procedures/documentation and testing.
- Attends the weekly ITSM and Operations Review and the Incident/Problem Review meetings as required
- Provides after-hours coverage of critical business systems on a rotating schedule with other members of the section, as agreed and scheduled with the Manager
- Stay updated on new trends and advancements in the field of cloud networking and automation
- Other duties deemed necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education, certification
- 7+ years of experience in network infrastructure administration, developing, coordinating, planning, delivering and deploying cybersecurity practices hybrid cloud/on-premises environment
- A recognized certificate in one of the following: CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNP Routing and Switching/Security, Microsoft Azure Administration (AZ104) strongly preferred
- Proven experience in planning, designing and implementing network technology solutions in a complex hybrid on-prem/cloud environment including Active Directory, Azure, M365, MS Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Exchange Online; Windows Server 2019/2016/2012/2008; Linux; Microsoft Office and SQL Server 2016/2014/2012;
- Experience with supporting Zscaler (ZIA/ZPA) Secure Internet Gateway, CrowdStrike Falcon (anti-virus/endpoint detection and response/threat hunting), Tenable Nessus vulnerability management considered definite assets
- Previous experience with Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
- Proven in depth hands experience configuration, installation, and troubleshooting Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, wireless, NAC, VoIP
- Strong in-depth knowledge of protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, MPLS, DHCP, QOS, DNS, NTP, LDAP, HSRP, VRRP, VxLan, SMTP, SSH and BGP
- Knowledge of supporting and implementing VMware VSphere 7/8 Enterprise, VCenter and VRealize considered definite assets
- Proven technical system management skills, specifically with technical issues at the server and Local Area Network level; experience with server and network management software; server configuration and installation problem determination and resolution
- Strong knowledge of Information and Cybersecurity principles, best practices, and industry standards
- Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- ITIL certification and previous experience with ServiceNow a definite asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of developing, maintaining and testing disaster recovery plans
- Proven commitment to customer service, performance quality, and continuous improvement
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team, to work independently as required, and to work after hours or weekends for scheduled maintenance or emergency calls
- Ability and sensitivity in providing respectful service to diverse populations (age, race, language, gender, sexual orientation, culture and disability)
