OPPORTUNITY

The City of St. Albert has an opportunity available for a permanent full time HVAC - Technician to join our Public Operations department.


Under the supervision of the Team Lead – Facility Services, the HVAC Technician performs various duties in the area of heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance and repair, as well as installation and alteration of HVAC/R systems, in compliance with corporate and provincially legislated Occupational Health and Safety regulations, policies and codes of practice and the City of St Albert Environmental Management System.


The individual we seek has strong interpersonal, writing, planning, and problem-solving skills. They can work independently and in a team while making sound decisions based on established standards.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 Education
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and clear drivers abstract showing fewer than 5 demerits is required.
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification
  • Journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic certificate recognized by the Province of Alberta
  • A minimum of five years of recent, directly related experience in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) building maintenance.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office programs
  • The position involves physical labour (heavy lifting) as well as sitting, riding, and standing. Incumbent must be prepared to work in all weather conditions and be able to work at heights
  • The ideal candidate would also posses a second trade certificate in one of the following areas: Gas Fitter Class A, Electrician, Plumber or Instrumentation and have several years or related experience.


HOURS OF WORK

7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Participation in the standby roster will be required.


COMPENSATION

$47.33 per hour. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.


This position is represented by the Union CUPE 941, and the terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between the Union and The City of St. Albert.


The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory police information check and a RCMP issued Reliability clearance. This process can take several months, and failure to obtain this clearance will result in ending your employment with the City of St. Albert as you will be unable to fulfil the duties of your position.
