Data Solutions Developer/DBA

On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a Full Time Data Solutions Developer/DBA who will design, implement, and maintain secure database systems while developing innovative data solutions. They are seeking a collaborative team player and experienced database and data solutions developer skilled in database server administration, database design, security, and performance optimization, with a strong foundation in data analytics, cloud-based solutions, and complex data queries.

Responsibilities:

The role is a balanced mix of database administration and data solutions development, with the following breakdown:

• 50% DBA Responsibilities:

o Backup and restore databases.

o Set up users and security protocols.

o Install and manage SQL databases on servers.

• 10% Data Science: Utilize tools like Python or R

• 10% Data Engineering: Develop ETL pipelines and manage data workflows.

• 10% Database Encryption/Data Replication: Implement TDE and manage replication processes such as snapshot, transactional, and merge replication.

• 10% Azure SQL: Manage and optimize cloud-based database solutions.

• 10% Complex Database Development: Create and maintain advanced database objects, including views, stored procedures, functions, and complex queries

Qualifications:

• Database Platforms:

o Experience with on-premise SQL Server (versions 2016–2022)

o Proficiency with Azure SQL and cloud-based database solutions

• Database Administration:

o Skilled in database installation, configuration, and management

o Expertise in performing database backups and restorations

o Ability to configure and enforce database security protocols

o Strong knowledge of database performance monitoring and optimization

• Data Development & Engineering:

o Experience developing and maintaining complex database objects (e.g., views, stored procedures, functions, advanced SQL queries)

o Proficiency in building and managing ETL pipelines and data workflows

o Familiarity with Azure Data Factory and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

• Programming & Analytics:

o Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and automation tasks

o Working knowledge of Azure Synapse and Power BI is an asset

• Database Security & Replication:

o Experience implementing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)

• Knowledge of database replication techniques including:

o Snapshot Replication

o Transactional Replication

o Merge Replication

• Cloud & Hybrid Environments:

o Experience working in hybrid data environments and managing cloud-based database infrastructure (Azure SQL)

• General Qualifications:

o Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

o Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

o Effective communication skills to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
