Job Summary:

Windsor Salt's Ojibway Mine in Windsor, Ontario is seeking a motivated supervisor to join the team. The Surface Production Supervisor provides daily oversight and direction for the safety and activities of workers engaged in the processing, loading and shipping of salt on surface (in the salt mill), to achieve production goals, minimize costs and make effective use of personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administer the company’s safety program to ensure a safe work environment including providing proactive solutions, timely corrective actions for hazards, proper housekeeping and leading by example.
  • Develop a team environment, encompassing staff at all levels and expertise, that utilizes individual, site and corporate strengths to meet daily business needs, solve problems, and develop and implement long-term goals and objectives.
  • Lead shift with a focus on positive culture by maintaining a strong presence in the workplace and routinely interacting with members of the workforce across departments and shifts.
  • Have a safety-focused approach to gaining results in all areas of responsibility.
  • Interpret the contract and management policies to ensure compliance with the CBA.
  • Look for new and innovative approaches to problem-solving.
  • Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure proper equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of surface operations and boat and truck loading activities.
  • Supervise in a manner that creates a positive labour relations climate.
  • Ensure accountability for work performance standards within the surface department.
  • Execute workplace improvements and projects.
  • Ensure stockpile operations support proper inventory management, optimization of pad space, and efficient load-out activities.
  • Assume overall responsibility for bulk material storage, loading, and transfer.
  • Responsible for surface environmental aspects of the site, including transfer and storage.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate's degree/diploma in an engineering or technical field (preferred) or equivalent work experience in a mining or bulk transfer environment.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory role (strongly preferred).
  • Experience in a role with responsibility for bulk material, storage and/or transfer (preferred).
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple project assignments at once.


Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • This job operates partially in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • While performing field work, is required to wear steel-toe boots, a hard hat and safety glasses.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The relative humidity is high in summer and low in winter.
  • Work areas are generally dry.
  • Must be able to walk for long distances over terrain varying from soft to hard as well as slick and uneven.
  • Must be able to work from heights and utilize a full-body harness.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend a ladder of at least thirty (30) feet in length.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
