Fleet & Facility Services is seeking a highly motivated, energetic and passionate individual to join the Fueling and Operations Technology team. The Maintenance Repairperson is responsible for providing diverse sub-journeyman level work in a variety of trades. This position is engaged in a variety of small scale construction, maintenance and repair duties, requiring general working knowledge and understanding of building and mechanical trades along with familiarity in

other basic trade practices.

The Maintenance Repairperson is the intermediary between facilities and their maintenance requirements. In this fast paced environment, you will be working on multiple requests and ensuring the requests are completed in a timely fashion. This role is also responsible for maintaining the lifecycle of all tools assigned to their facilities in accordance with all internal policies and procedures. This includes the purchase, delivery, inventory and any preventative maintenance requirements. Other additional tasks will include assisting with snow removal, assisting with trench cleaning, conducting safety inspections, ensuring preventative maintenance plans are being followed and rotating through a 24/7 on-call schedule for minor Fuel Maintenance at the city’s Fuel Sites.

What will you do?

  • Liaising between the facility and the Facility Maintenance Service group to ensure work orders are submitted, processed and closed in a timely fashion
  • Ensure that any and all preventative and planned maintenance is conducted in a timely fashion in accordance to the City’s policy
  • Perform semi-skilled manual labour activities in Infrastructure Maintenance which may include but are not limited to: safety inspections and repairs, rehabilitation of assets, winter snow removal
  • Perform rough carpentry work in the repair, maintenance and alteration of buildings, including removal of furniture and fixtures when necessary
  • Inspects cranes and other major assets on an ongoing schedule, reporting and following up with deficiencies
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, shop tools, as well as the frequent operation of motor vehicles and other equipment
  • Use equipment and tools that may include but are not limited to: trucks, skid steers, trailers, blowers, chainsaws, snow blowers, tampers, tapers, tractors, shovels, rakes, axes, power saws and other power/hand tools
  • Regularly performs inspections on equipment to ensure equipment is functioning properly and has no irregularities; performs minor maintenance on equipment
  • Performs work in a safe and efficient manner following policies and regulations; participates in safety talks, writes up simple reports (inspection reports, accident reports, inventories etc.) etc
  • Ensure the use of simple language and list by order of magnitude
  • Work closely with on-site facility Forperson/Supervisor and perform related work as required


Qualifications:

  • Completion of the 10 or higher school grade
  • Experience or training in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience


Assets:

  • 3 years progressively responsible experience in buildings, maintenance and operations is considered an asset


Skills required for success:

  • Understand the occupational dangers and safety precautions of the trades involved
  • Understand the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in one or more of the building or mechanical trades applicable to work assignments
  • Good knowledge of departmental and civic policies, regulations and operations affecting the work assigned
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Skill in the use and care of the tools required to perform the work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • Ability to perform outside tasks in all weather conditions
  • Basic proficiency in Google Applications and operating tablets, smartphones and laptops

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

  • This role requires the ability to work in various environments, including exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and various weather conditions

Up to 1 permanent full-time position

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday.

Salary Range: $33.715 (Hourly); $70,396.920 (Annually)
