About The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director Central Underwriting, the Proficiency Coach is accountable to train new and developing Underwriters into their respective roles and provide learning opportunities to existing Underwriters. The successful candidate will assist with onboarding and leading team members through an existing training program, ensuring a consistent learning experience for new and developing Underwriters. You will ensure the new associates maintain the required competencies to be successful in their respective industry subsectors. This role is also accountable to support a team of contracted underwriters.
The Proficiency Coach is a member of the Central Underwriting Leadership Team. This is an opportunity to lead, mentor and support a fluid team of underwriters dedicated to assessing credit risk, while ensuring an optimum customer experience.
You are an experienced banker, capable in analyzing Agriculture, Diversified and Real Estate risk and is comfortable supporting the Underwriter with difficult conversations. You will support the training of Underwriters working through actual client deals, while working closely with partners to deliver high quality applications.

Accountabilities
- A passion for sharing knowledge and developing the credit skills of others.
- An above average aptitude in writing high value Business and Agriculture Credit applications. You maintain a thorough understanding of banking credit risk management processes.
- Experience as a mentor or coach to develop the performance of others. You will lean into your professional experience and expert knowledge to help Underwriters attain their appropriate level of proficiency.
- Research, build and evolve the foundational tools required to assist in the development of Underwriters that sets the standard of excellence within the industry.
- Assist with the building and implementing of evaluation metrics and targets.
- An in depth understanding of how to establish & monitor individual learning plans & testing for understanding of material.
- Create and facilitate innovative workshops, forums, skill builds, and “quick hit” learning sessions through the use of virtual sessions and more traditional methods intended to share best practices, learn, and enhance skills.
- Discover and implement innovative ways to capture, share and replicate examples of excellence.
- Schedule and hold regular one on one meetings with associates for the purpose of setting objectives and key results (OKR), evaluating performance and exchanging feedback.
- Regularly review credit applications to provide feedback intended to help Underwriters develop in their roles.
- Enjoys collaborating with internal and external partners to remain current on ATBs credit risk practices and industry standards.
- Confidence in networking with all internal ATB professionals/departments and developing the relationships/networks to optimize the career development value you will bring to your reports.
- Previous experience in the recruitment and hiring process would be an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years banking experience managing and/or underwriting high value and complex relationships and displays a full competency working in the Agriculture and Diversified industries.
- An above average understanding of borrowing causes and proper credit structuring.
- Accurately analyze Corporate Financial statements to determine the financial standing/health of various operations in any number of industries, both business and agriculture related.
- Demonstrate a thorough banking knowledge of standard credit risk policies & procedures and be able to translate the same to others.
- Communicate clearly and effectively,both verbally and written to a diverse audience.
- Exhibit and practice a willingness to coach and guide associates in the credit assessment and approval process.
